Saturday 5 December 2026 | 3pm–6pm
Join us for an intensive three-hour workshop exploring the rich musical traditions of Afro-Cuban batá drumming, led by David Pattman and Vicky Jassey.
This workshop is designed for percussionists with at least three years of drumming experience, as well as those already studying batá at intermediate level.
Working in a supportive and collaborative environment, participants will develop their understanding of batá rhythms, explore the relationships between the three drums and their songs, and deepen their rhythmic and ensemble skills.
New to batá? If you have a solid background in percussion but are new to batá, you’ll be introduced to elements of the tradition that are accessible to beginners, while more experienced players will have opportunities to develop their existing skills. Participants are welcome to record the different drum parts for personal study, allowing you to continue learning and practising the material at home.
