We’re proud to share our new Coro de Clave video: Madre de Agua (Mother of Water).
Madre de Agua is a powerful Congo water spirit connected with rivers, lakes, and the ocean — embodying the nurturing and transformative qualities of water itself. Her presence flows between African, Indigenous, and Catholic spiritual lineages in Cuba. Here in London, her spirit bridges diasporic and local communities through the shared language of music and collective song. Based between London and Spain, Coro de Clave brings together singers of all levels in a joyful exploration of Afro-Cuban folk traditions.
Founded and directed by Vicky Jassey and David Pattman, the choir revives the 19th-century Cuban clave choir tradition while expanding into contemporary Cuban-inspired repertoire. Coro de Clave also collaborates with Moving Voices, creating pathways for female survivors of human trafficking to engage in community music-making and creative expression.
